Take Care: Exploring the Connection Between Personality Type and Cancer

While the polarizing qualities between Type A and Type B personalities are familiar to most people, there is another personality type that is not as well known.

Type C personality is expressed through people who:

  • Suppress emotions
  • Remain pleasant despite difficult circumstances
  • Use denial as a coping strategy
  • Are prone to self-blame and guilt
  • Put other’s needs before their own

It’s no surprise that emotions such as depression, anger, and hostility make us more prone to illness, while positive attitudes such as hope, optimism, and happiness strengthen our immune systems and can help protect us from diseases.

Join us as we explore the link between personality type and cancer.

Susan Cizmas MA., LPC

Susan grew up in Michigan where she completed her undergraduate work with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Wayne State University. Before moving to Texas and continuing her education in counseling, Susan had the opportunity to provide intensive in-home family therapy for families in crisis with a program called Families First. She moved to the DFW area for new opportunities and warm sunny skies. Susan has guided individuals and their families on enrichment and life skills training for people with mental retardation and/or other mental health issues. Furthermore, as a middle school teacher Susan found that most of her time was spent integrating social and individual development skills into her curriculum to aid the students to better deal with their lives. After many rich life experiences, Susan decided it was time to put it all to use for the betterment of others, and obtained her Masters in Counseling from Amberton University to pursue the work she loves.
